Christopher Hale Porter is the fifth generation of Bryan Churchill Porter's family to be the president of what is now Porter's Funeral Service (formerly B.C. Porter and Sons Funeral Home). The son of the late Eliot Hale Porter II and the late Marilyn (Broersma) Porter, he was born in New Britain on July 23, 1950, graduated from Mooreland Hill School in Kensington in 1965, graduated from Westminster School in Simsbury in 1969 where he was a four-year letterman on the swim team, graduated from Kent State University in 1974 with a Bachelor's degree in English where he was president of the local chapter of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity, and received his Associate degree in Mortuary Science from New England Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1983. He is married to Peggy (Coppe) Porter, and they have four children, Philip, John, Bryan, and Elizabeth Porter. Chris is
a life-time member of First
Church of Christ, Congregational, in New Britain where he served on the Christian Education
Committee, a Past President of the Berlin
Lions Club (1998-1999) who recognized him as a "Melvin Jones
Fellow", "Knight of The Blind", and an "Ambassador of
Sight", past District Treasurer for the
District 23-B
of the Connecticut Lions Clubs, Past Master of Centennial Lodge #118 A.F.&A.M. (now Unity Lodge
#148) in 1991, and a Corporator of New Britain Boy's & Girls
Club, New Britain-Berlin Y.M.C.A, and
C.C.A.R.C. In 2006 he was the recipient of
the Hardware City Detachment Marine Corps League, Inc.’s
"Distinguished
Citizen Award" and in 2010 he and Peggy were each honored to receive the
prestigious Chapel of Four Chaplains Legion of Honor
