KENSINGTON - John Frederick Maier, 59, of Southington Road, beloved husband of Karen (Collin) Maier, died Thursday morning (May 24, 2007) at home with his family at his side. Born in Meriden, the son of Agnes (Young) Maier of Kensington and the late John C. Maier, he graduated from Berlin High School, received his Vocational Technical Education certification from Central Connecticut State University, and retired from the State of Connecticut Department of Corrections. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church in East Berlin, and the Interstate Police Officers Association, and served as president of South Burying Grounds Association in Kensington. His hobbies included snowmobiling, traveling, fishing with his grandchildren, restoring antique cars, woodworking, working on the farm, and drag racing. In addition to his wife and his mother, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Kari and John Drost, and Amy and Joseph Daniele, all of Kensington, a brother, Thomas C. Maier of Kensington, his father-in-law, Gerard Collin of Plainville, four grandchildren, Joshua and Dylan Drost, and Jordan and Taylor Daniele, and several nieces and nephews. A Funeral Liturgy will take place Tuesday (May 29, 2007) at 11am directly at Sacred Heart Church, 66 Cottage Street, East Berlin. Burial in Old South Burying Ground, Kensington, will be at the convenience of the family. Friends and relatives are invited to call at Porter's Funeral Home, 111 Chamberlain Highway in Kensington, on Monday (May 28, 2007) from 5-8pm.
