KENSINGTON - David “Woody” Franklin Woodruff, 72, of Kensington, loving husband of Alicia (Graziano) Woodruff, died early Saturday morning (March 29, 2014) with his family at his side after a long struggle with pulmonary fibrosis. Born in New Britain, son of the late Franklin and the late Margaret (Sexton) Woodruff, he graduated from Berlin High School, was employed at The Stanley Works, proudly served Town of Berlin Police Department for 30 years, and enjoyed his time as a ranger at Timberlin Golf Course. He was a survivor of the Hartford Circus fire, and was a member of Kensington Congregational Church, the Berlin Police Association, the Fraternal Order of Police, and a Life Member of the I.P.I.C. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Jacques Dulac of Coventry, a son and daughter-in-law, David and Kim Woodruff of Kensington, two grandchildren whom he adored, Erica and Brian, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Philip. A funeral service will be held Thursday (April 3, 2014) at 9am from Porter’s Funeral Home, 111 Chamberlain Highway, Berlin, followed by a funeral service at 10am at Kensington Congregational Church, 312 Percival Avenue, The Rev. James W. Wild officiating. Burial will be in Maple Cemetery, Berlin. Friends and relatives are invited to call at the funeral home, on Wednesday (April 2, 2014) from 4-7pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Francis Hospital Pulmonary Rehabilitation, 114 Woodland Street, Hartford, CT 06105, or to the Berlin Police Association, 240 Kensington Road, Berlin, CT 06037.
