Susan T. Harris, 63, formerly of Berlin, found everlasting peace April 24, 2015 at St. Francis Hospital, Hartford, after a strong-fought battle against the odds.
Born 1952, to the late Ernest and Anna Harris, in Middletown, NY, they moved to several states before her graduation from Bulkeley High School, Hartford in 1970, and settled in Wethersfield. Sue’s varied careers included many restaurants; The Russian Lady and Rocking Horse Café; she worked at the Connecticut State Library for more than a decade. In later years, she became a caregiver, allowing her altruism to shine.
She lived in Berlin for 25 years beside best friend and soul mate, the late Spencer “Cork” Haman. Together they enjoyed bird watching, gardening, taking long drives, and antiquing. She was most happy at home, listening to music, in the company of her loved ones.
Sue is survived by daughter, Leanna Harris and her boyfriend Jared Carpenter; brother William and wife Cathleen Harris, and nephew James Harris. She leaves goddaughter Melanie Felton and her family; Sara and Logan Jackson and “granddaughter” Olivia. She loved and will be missed by special family and friends; Sue Pekrul and Mike Siering; Peter and Kelly Pekrul; Sharon Reckert; and Donna Rutola.
Sue was active in the Berlin Garden Club and Kensington Congregational Church. She quickly became a friend to all and dedicated her time to positions as Deacon, lay preacher, charter member of Seekers, and most recently, Missions and President of the Woman’s Service League.The family wishes to acknowledge the incomparable care provided by the staff of St. Francis Hospital and the Cancer Center.
A memorial service will be held Friday May 1, 2015 at 11 a.m., Kensington Congregational Church, 312 Percival Ave. (Rte 71), Kesington, Conn. Memorial donations can be made to Kensington Congregational Church to help defray Susan’s funeral expenses. Porter’s Funeral Service in Kensignton is assisting the family.
