Pierce, Doris (Archer) - June 14, 2015


NEW BRITAIN- Doris (Archer) Pierce, 96, widow of Waldo Belden Pierce, passed away peacefully Sunday (June 14, 2015) at her home of 70 years in New Britain, supported by her family. Born to the late Thomas Archer and Lillian Robinson Archer in Dorchester, Massachusetts on September 15, 1918, she graduated from Stevens High School in Claremont, New Hampshire in 1936, and moved to Fitchburg, Massachusetts, where she later married and moved to New Britain in 1944 with Waldo and their infant son. In New Britain, she worked at Landers, Frary and Clark, Skinner Chuck, and retired from the YWCA in 1973 after years of front desk service. From her many contacts, she formed and honored deep and durable friendships. She was a parishioner of South Congregational Church. With tireless devotion to family, she leaves her sons Thomas Pierce of Plainville, Douglas Pierce and his wife Mary of Higganum, and Norman Pierce of South Glastonbury. With equally tireless interest, she was at all times mindful of her grandchildren, Franklin and his wife Kristine, Margaret and her partner Nell, and Melaina, and two great-grandchildren, Mackenzie and Cooper. She was predeceased by siblings Leonard Archer, Douglas Archer, and Irene Kowalewski. Her family would like to thank her several caregivers including Alecia, Stacy, Adeliz, Carmen, Lois, Kim, and Dariana. A graveside service will be held Friday (June 19, 2015) at 2pm in Fairview Cemetery, New Britain.
