NEW BRITAIN - Ted John Ponds, 94, of New Britain, formerly of Kensington, and Vero Beach, Florida, beloved husband of Victoria (Labickas) Ponds for 71 years, passed away Wednesday (September 23, 2015) at Jerome Home, New Britain. Proud of his Polish heritage, he was born in New Britain, graduated from New Britain High School and E.C. Goodwin Technical Institute where he learned the tool and diemaker trade, and worked at Landers, Frary, and Clark, as well as becoming a journeyman tool and diemaker. He was later sent to Norfolk, Virginia, by the United States Government to work for NASA, a position of which he was always proud. Upon returning to New Britain, he was employed by Landers, Frary, and Clark, and later at Kern Special Tools in New Britain until his retirement. In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Leona and Jack Needham of Berlin, and Claudia McKeon of Southington, four grandchildren, Jennifer Needham, Jeffrey Needham, Colin McKeon, and Brendan McKeon and his wife Courtney, a great-grandson, Gavin McKeon, several nieces and nephews, a sister-in-law, Marge Poniatowski, and a special friend, Roger Kern. He was predeceased by two sisters, Helen Tanski and Veronica Poniatowski, and two brothers, Bob and Anthony Poniatowski. His family wishes to thank Lori Toombs, Director of Jerome Home, and her staff, and Grace Ho, a special aide from Masonicare Hospice. A Funeral liturgy at St. Paulís Church in Kensington, and burial in St. Mary Cemetery in New Britain will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.
