Daigle, Valier Joseph - February 22, 2016


Valier Joseph Daigle, 91, of Berlin, loving husband of Dorothy (Bedard) Daigle, died Monday morning (February 22, 2016) at home. Born in Upper Frenchville, Maine, the oldest son of a family of nine children of the late Rene and the late Marie (Martin) Daigle, he worked on his family’s farm in Maine leaving at the age of 15 to work in New Britain factories, and entered the Army Air Force during WWII at the age of 17 where he served as an airplane and engine mechanic. After being discharged, he completed his education and in 1953, and started D & D Builders in Berlin CT. Years later he started Val-D Construction and became known to friends and family as “Val-D”. He was a past president of St. Jean Baptiste Societe, New Britain CT, a Fourth Degree Knight of the Berlin Knights of Columbus, a member of the Franco-American War Veterans Post 26, a longtime active member of the Berlin Lions Club who awarded him as a Melvin Jones Fellow, and as all who knew him and can attest, a most devoted volunteer at the annual Berlin Fair, hard at work in the Beer Booth Tent and then the Pavilion. Val loved spending time at the cottage he built on Coventry Lake where many friends and family would gather and enjoy boating, horseshoes, cards, and “Val's baked beans”. In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children, Valerie (Daigle) Fusaro and her husband Robert of Sandwich, MA, Robert Daigle and his wife Grace Patterson of Verona Island, ME, Jacqueline (Daigle) Fusaro and her husband Michael of Marietta GA, Charlene Daigle of Hopkinton, MA, and Daniel Daigle and his wife Moira of Kensington CT, Poppy's 9 granddaughters: Katherine and Elisabeth Fusaro, Madeline and Carrie Daigle, Danielle (Fusaro) Zhest, Nicole and Alicia Fusaro, and Kyra and Caroline Daigle, 2 great-granddaughters: Maya and Nora Zhest, and his siblings, Esther Raducha of New Britain, Lucien Daigle of New Britain, Teresa Jambard of Berlin, and Joan Bensmiller of Nevada. He was predeceased by John Daigle of Bristol, Ray Daigle of Rhode Island, Bernard Daigle of Middletown, Paul Daigle of Middletown. A Funeral Liturgy will take place Friday (February 26, 2016) at 10am DIRECTLY AT St. Paul’s Church, 467 Alling Street in Kensington. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Friends and relatives are invited to call at Porter’s Funeral Home, 111 Chamberlain Highway, Berlin, on Thursday (February 25, 2016) from 4-7pm. The Berlin Lions will conduct a service at 6:30pm.
