Eileen (Lineen) Sampl, 62, of Meriden died Monday afternoon (August 29, 2016) at Midstate Medical Center. Born in Hartford on August 26, 1954, daughter of the late John and the late Eileen (Berckman) Lineen, she lived in Hartford where she graduated from Hartford Public high School, married her husband of 40 years, Richard Sampl on April 24, 1976, and briefly lived in New Britain until they settled in Meriden where they have resided for the past 37 years. Eileen was a lover of knowledge, and a person who never stopped learning. She ran an in-home daycare, and worked for the Meriden Board of Education for many years as a kindergarten para-professional at Roger Sherman School. She had many talents including knitting, sewing and making holiday crafts, loved visiting Cape Cod, and her favorite pastime, during her last few years of life, was spending time with her grandson. In addition to her husband, Eileen is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Ryan Fennessy of Middletown, and their son Owen, who was her “boy” and the light of her life; her father-in-law Harry Sampl of Kensington; her siblings Mary Gibbs and her husband Stephen of Farmington, Theresa Grover of Meriden, Frederica Lineen and her fiancé Tony Mazzotta of Hardy, Virginia, and Thomas Lineen of West Hartford; her brother-in-law Robert Sampl and his wife Maureen of Enfield; her aunts, Catherine Berckman and Mary O’Connor, and uncle Anthony Lineen; 10 nieces and nephews who she loved like her own children; 7 great-nieces and nephews; several cousins including Teresa Dorsey and Colleen Cunningham, with whom she had very special bonds; and a large extended Irish-American family. She was pre-deceased by her mother-in-law Emily Sampl. Eileen’s physical health had been failing for years, but that never stopped her from embracing life to its fullest. She was a true testament to the power of faith and the human spirit. Eileen’s family would like to thank that staff at Midstate Medical Center, and Assisted Living Services, especially her Home Health Aide Jen, for all of the care and support they provided. Funeral services will be held Friday (September 2, 2016) at 9am from Porter’s Funeral Home, 111 Chamberlain Highway, 111 Chamberlain Highway, Berlin, with a Funeral Liturgy at 10am at St. Paul’s Church on Alling Street. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. Friends and relatives are invited to call at the funeral home on Thursday (September 1, 2016) from 4-7pm.
